CIMC's First FLNG Vessel! CIMC Raffles Signs EPC Order for 1 FLNG Vessel with Global FLNG Operation Giant
Recently, CIMC Raffles, a subsidiary of CIMC Group, signed an EPC Contract with Golar LNG Limited, a global leader in FLNG operations, for one Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) production, storage, and offloading vessel. This is CIMC's first FLNG project, marking a significant breakthrough in high-end offshore segment and demonstrating its commitment to the "3060" Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Goals and green development.
An FLNG is a floating platform that processes liquefied natural gas at sea, far from land, and stores it before offloading to LNG carriers for global transport. It is one of the most complex, expensive, and value-added products in offshore engineering equipment, regarded as the "new crown jewel" in the shipbuilding and offshore industry.
The FLNG vessel in this order will be approximately 390 meters long and 70 meters wide, with an expected annual production capacity of 3.5 million tons of liquefied natural gas. It is scheduled for delivery in 2027 and will expand Golar LNG’s fleet, enhancing its competitiveness in the global energy market.
In the past two years, the global natural gas supply and demand structure has undergone significant changes, with many countries increasingly focusing on energy security. Oil and gas companies are gradually adopting FLNG to develop offshore natural gas resources, and the next two years are expected to be a critical period for this industry's growth.
Golar LNG predicts that within the next five years, the number of FLNG units may nearly double. By 2030, it is estimated that there will be approximately 18 FLNG units globally, producing over 60 million tons of liquefied natural gas annually. Currently, five FLNG units are operational worldwide, with an annual production of over 12 million tons.
Wang Jianzhong, CEO and President of CIMC Raffles, stated that the signing of this new project further solidifies CIMC Raffles' leadership position in offshore equipments. It demonstrates the company's ability to handle large, complex projects that meet the highest industry standards. CIMC Raffles will continue to focus on the independent development and manufacturing of high-end offshore equipment, committed to providing high-quality, innovative solutions for the global energy market.
