Economical exploitation of marginal oil field has always been a difficult area in the global marine industry, especially with the low oil price situation. How to develop marginal oil field economically and efficiently has become the focus of the industry. At present, international mainstream design companies have also launched semi-submersible production platforms suitable for economic exploitation of marginal oil fields.

Together with Bassoe Technology (BT) of Sweden, CIMC Raffles R&D team has developed and completed the conceptual design of two types of economic deepwater semi-submersible production and storage platforms for marginal oilfields, with and without workover functions, through independent research and innovation. BT of Sweden is a member of CIMC Raffles marine engineering team, and its main personnel are the core personnel of the original BT international first-class design company, with rich experience in the design of semi-submersible production platform.

Semi-submersible production platforms has always been one of the main developmental focus for international oilfield development due to its excellent maneuverability, spacious deck space and high adaptability to severe sea conditions.

On the whole, the two types of platforms adopt the traditional annular buoy and four-column floating body scheme. The upper part is designed as truss deck, living area layout, utility equipment module and process equipment module, and the workover scheme is also equipped with workover equipment. About 20,000 cubic meters of crude oil storage tank is arranged in the buoy and pillar, which can meet the crude oil storage demand of marginal oil field.

The design of this scheme takes safety and cost reduction as the main design concept. With excellent performance and high cost performance, it can effectively reduce the development cost, meet the economic development requirements of marginal oil field development under low oil price, and be fully applicable to the development of marginal oil fields in the South China Sea, East China Sea and other deep water areas.
